“Mohave Valley Raceway May 15th 2010”
Another great night for racing at the Mohave Valley Raceway on Saturday night, yet again the field of modifieds was rather small, but we were there,
We have been making all kinds of adjustments trying to get the car to run on the dry slick surface, bar angles, spring changes, Driving style, but I am still struggling to get the forward bite to run with the two or three fastest cars.
Lined up outside pole in the heat race and drove hard into the first turn. The pole sitter pushed up in the second turn, getting into my new tire (PLEASE DON”T HURT THE NEW TIRE!), but we managed to bump off and I took off into the lead. The car was OK, but still not coming off the turns and soon I had a car on the inside racing me for the lead. I over drove the first turn into the marbles and slid back to 5th spot. From there I tried different grooves and hung on to my position the rest of the race.
We got back to work after the heat, more bar changes, more weight changes and lined up on the pole for the main. I took off on the green flag, but soon fell back to second, the car had much better bite getting off the turns, but bounced like crazy in the middle of the turn, so I had to adjust my driving style to drive straighter through the corners and not slide the back of the car. That method allowed me to stay in sight of second place, who was a few cars behind the leader but not really any serious racing action going on. Just past halfway I saw the leader slow down and pull off the track on the back straight moving me to second place. That is where I finished; we will be making MORE adjustments on the car this week trying now to get the corner bounce problem fixed.
This is a quick week for us, due to the this race being added we have a rare two weeks in a row racing so we will be back at the Mohave Valley Raceway this Saturday night, June 5th.
See you at the races!
